CEO & Co-Founder

Mark has spent over a decade in government and politics and has been a featured speaker on the future of smart cities and analytics at the White House, World Bank, State Department, and Harvard Smart Cities Accelerator. Mark also serves as a director to humanitarian and environmental non-profits and was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal.

Leah Hanvey

Business Development Manager

Leah is a former Advisor to the federal Minister of Small Business and Tourism and Government House Leader. Leah was also a technical analyst in financial modelling for Deloitte, completed an exchange at the University of Zurich in banking and finance, and worked at the Vancouver Economic Commission performing economic research.

Steve Vandervalk

Senior Software Engineer

Steve is a senior software engineer with experience working across many domains in software engineering and academic research. He previously founded his own security company before learning to prefer the early engineering stage in startups. Steve is a free software and privacy activist in his spare time, and recently made his return to Canada from Australia.

Calvin Beaton

Market Analyst

Calvin is a University of Victoria graduate with a bachelor’s degree in geography and business, and a keen interest in smart city applications and software solutions. During his studies, Calvin worked with the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and completed an exchange semester at Utrecht University focusing on transportation solutions.

Grace Hof

Software Developer

Grace is a software developer eager to work on platforms that help people make decisions driven by analytics. Grace graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor’s of Science in computing science, and in her free time, she likes to experiment with her camera, dabble in statistics and write blog posts.

Herman Chandi

COO & Co-Founder

Herman is a former business development leader and early employee at a Silicon Valley financed cloud-based start-up when it went from zero in revenue to over $1 million recurring revenue. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, seasoned tech executive, and has served on political campaigns and non-profit boards in the social enterprise space.

Julien Refour

Data Scientist

Julien is a McGill University graduate with both a Master's and Bachelor's of Science in Physics. As a data scientist at UrbanLogiq, Julien is responsible for managing and procuring data through partnerships, as well as building the deep learning and machine learning models that power the UrbanLogiq platforms.

Brian Ho

Software Engineer

Brian is a software engineer with over half a dozen years of experience in writing and maintaining web-based analytics platforms. Passionate about urban development and big data, Brian looks to apply his experience to solve problems associated with urban living.

Giselle Pereira

UX/UI Designer

Giselle is a digital designer who is passionate about building frictionless and highly usable products. After finishing her professional basketball career, she began studying design at university. Giselle has over 7 years of diverse experience and found at Urbanlogiq a way to leverage design as a tool to help improve people’s lives.

Arun Dawit

Co-Founder

Arun is a co-founder of UrbanLogiq and holds an MBA from Deakin University. Arun previously served as a communications director for multiple political campaigns, later launching his own communications consulting firm. He has worked as a consultant to real estate developers, helping marshal proposals through city permitting, engineering, and zoning processes.

Rachel Rasmussen

Marketing & Communications Specialist

Rachel is a marketing communications specialist with a background in managing client relations and accounts in the real estate industry. Rachel completed her bachelor’s degree in English and professional writing at the University of Victoria before undertaking her marketing communications accreditation from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

Morgan Cassels

Morgan is a University of Victoria graduate with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and linguistics. With a passion for machine learning and sustainable urban planning, Morgan is excited to work on data-driven tools that increase quality of life for urban communities.

Marcela Baiocchi, Ph.D

UX/UI Designer

Marcela is a designer and researcher with a Ph.D. from Université de Montréal, where she studied methods to augment diversity in news recommendation systems using text mining. With a 20-year career in IT, Marcela instils remarkable creativity in digital product design, collaborating with business development and user-oriented strategies.

Max Burke

Chief Technology Officer

Max has spent over a decade building high-performance teams and advancing the state of technology behind the biggest video games and distribution platforms. Max has multiple patents that span the areas of machine learning application from software operations to the rendering and streaming of video games.

Duong Vu

Data Engineer

Duong has a Master's of Data Science from the University of British Columbia and a Master's of Law (M.J.) from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Duong was named the 2018 Women in Data Science ambassador in Vancouver and has worked on data analysis and automating accounting books for the Indiana Auditor of State.

Saimir Sulaj

Software Engineer

Saimir is 3rd-year electrical engineering student at the University of British Columbia. With over 2.5 years of freelance development work across multiple industries, Saimir has a strong foundational knowledge of React JS, Node JS, Android, and Python.

Myron Loke

Software Engineer

Myron is a University of British Columbia graduate with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Myron enjoys complex mathematical problem solving and finding new ways to solve existing problems through computational thinking.
