Govtech Startup Selected by Province of BC to Modernize Indigenous Land Negotiations
September 26, 2018
VANCOUVER, BC – UrbanLogiq is pleased to announce our acceptance into the Province of British Columbia’s Startup In Residence Program, 2018-2019 Cohort. Modeled after San Francisco’s successful Startup in Residence program, the BC Startup in Residence (STIR) program connects tech startups with provincial government business areas to collaboratively and iteratively develop technology-based solutions for public-sector challenges within a 16-week timeframe.
“UrbanLogiq is honoured to support the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation in its work to advance an inclusive and lasting cross-government vision of reconciliation. As a BC company that works with governments around the world, including completing the San Francisco Startup in Residence program, it is exciting to see the BC government take such strong leadership in embracing innovation to support the public service,” says Mark Masongsong, CEO and Co-Founder.
UrbanLogiq has come full circle in our acceptance to BC STIR as it marks a pivotal moment for the company. Since first being admitted to the City of San Francisco’s second annual STIR program in 2016, UrbanLogiq has grown staff numbers three times over and continues to build traction by welcoming more clients from across Canada and the United States. UrbanLogiq is now embracing this next challenge: creating a modern platform for land stakeholders that will support the more efficient and effective management and sharing of land information to better inform land negotiations, achieve improved outcomes for First Nations, and advance reconciliation in the province of British Columbia.
UrbanLogiq applauds the Province of British Columbia for implementing proven innovation programs like STIR and for championing alternative procurement vehicles that are inclusive of emerging players in providing real solutions to government. We hope this model continues to be adopted by jurisdictions worldwide.
